A Window into Invitations and Provocations: Responsive Pedagogy in the Early Years

We are proud and excited to share with you a monograph that we hope will invite and provoke reflection and conversation.

An autumn invitation ~ children explored colour mixing to create different shades of orange. When we invite children to paint nature’s beauty we open the doors to creativity and welcome the perspectives and interpretations of our youngest artists.

The children were invited to explore beads in the sensory bin. Senses come alive with the sounds, textures, and sights. Children curiously investigated the open-ended possibilities of bead play.

With much interest in the treasures of nature’s beauty, our classroom collection grew by the day. With acorns, tree bark, black walnuts, chestnuts, leaves, twigs, branches, and other autumn delights filled investigation trays and bowls around the room. After spending time examining the intricacies of these beautiful elements from the outdoors, some children thoughtfully set up their own invitation with chestnuts, paper, and pencils. The observational drawings reflected the children’s perspectives and interpretations of this self-directed learning provocation.

We invite you to post to your reflections to your favourite social media platform.
